I've been helping to curate and set up a fabulous exhibition in King's Lynn run by West Norfolk Artists Association. It opens Saturday 27th November and is open every day up to and including Saturday 11th December. Entry is free and it's open 10am - 4pm.
Why not treat yourself to an original piece of art, or buy a very special Christmas gift? Over 50 artists are taking part. Lots of nice cards as well!
This is one of my paintings on show and I was thrilled when it was chosen as the image for the exhibition posters and flyers. It's unusual for me, as although I often use watercolours in my sketchbooks I don't produce many finished pieces in this medium. I'm more likely to work in oil or acrylic. I really enjoyed doing this one, called 'Autumn Light'. Quite a small work, behind glass with a soft grey frame. SOLD on the second day of the exhibition.
This is entitled 'Saltmarsh (Holme)' and was painted in oil on canvas, 'en plein air', in October this year on a lovely warm day. I was sat in long grass on a bank looking across the marsh towards the sea. I loved the play of light as the breeze moved across the vegetation and the beautiful colour contrasts. I find views of the saltmarsh are fascinating and constantly changing, with a mass of detail when you look closely, but rhythmic blocks of colour emerging from a distance. This is for sale at £150.
I've included a few small experimental paintings on paper, mounted and ready to frame. I often start work in the studio by trying out different techniques and using a variety of media and mark making. This sometimes leads into a new painting, but always frees me up and gives me new ideas.
I hope you can visit the exhibition. With so many artists taking part there really is something for every taste. Visit https://www.westnorfolkartists.org for more information.
