More abstraction

In some of my latest work and sketchbook observations I’ve been exploring linear forms more and more. This has led me to the beginning of a new series of paintings, which I’m really enjoying. All of these are on box canvas and are 24” x 24”.

This first one is completely abstract, but heavily influenced by my attachment to the sea and coastal areas. Within it I can see areas which might be harbourside buildings, areas of sky, sea and reflection in water.

‘Coastal Planes’ led on from lots of sketches made in St Ives in Cornwall and a series of much smaller paintings I did. I hope it gives a sense of the light and sense of calm in this beautiful little town, even though depicting an abstract view of the many crowded buildings around the harbour.

This followed on, playing with perspective even more by distorting it and ignoring the ‘rules’.

This is the latest, just finished. I love the bold lines and colours with the shapes roughly echoing some of the many drawings of boats I’ve done over the years. It makes me smile!
