Art Collaboration

Over the years I have collaborated with my son/artist/music producer Tim Angrave on various projects, but more lately these have been art based. I love the layers of colour, texture and mark making that Tim builds up in his paintings and drawings. The collaboration partly has come about through a self-learnt natural healing process enabled substantially by a kind, safe, trusting environment.

This is a quick sketch I did in the pinewoods at Wells on an incredibly windy day. I painted a version of this in the studio, but was never happy with the result, which seemed very static and flat to me. I wondered about redoing or painting over the top.

Tim added colours and layers and for me this brought the painting completely to life. I much prefer this version

I’ve always enjoyed working alongside other artists, sharing ideas and inspiration, but actually sharing a canvas takes this to a completely new level and is so rewarding and interesting. We’ve done quite a few now and the process often leads to quite deep conversations. There is a strong connection between opening up creatively and personally. No wonder art is therapeutic.
